Scarlett Charles comes from a family of equestrians. She currently rides in Europe with Heathcroft Farm. Scarlett is a beautiful rider with so much talent. I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions and am excited to share them with you...
Where were you born and raised and where do you live now?
I was born in Northern Ireland but raised at our home Heathcroft Farm in Alton, Hampshire. I have lived here all my life with my mum, dad, brother and sister; we had the best upbringing always surrounded by horses. I feel so lucky to be able to wake up everyday and have the horse outside the back door!
Who do you train with?
My dad (Peter Charles, Olympic Gold medalist) has always been my trainer and I feel very privileged to be able to learn from the best. From a young age I was taught the basic foundations to my riding which we have built upon over the years. To have his rich wealth of knowledge passed on to me is something I’ve benefited from hugely and am very grateful for.
How long have you been competing on the GP level and what are your goals?
I’ve competed on Children, Pony and Junior European teams, and did my first 2* at 16. I’m now a young rider and successfully jumping at 3* level. My aim is to jump Senior nations cup teams in the near future.
What's your favorite warm-up routine for your horses?
I never do too much with my horses in the warm up; I always aim to keep it simple. We never jump too big as it’s important to keep your horse relaxed and comfortable; also aiming to replicate the rhythm you want in the ring is important.
What is your favorite show ground and why?
My favourite show ground is probably the Royal Windsor horse show. It’s such a prestigious event, essentially jumping in the Queens back garden and also has the best atmosphere. It’s so nice to have been able to compete there and win!
